REORGANIZATION MEETING

7:30 P.M.

 

M I N U T E S 

 

    

         1. CALL TO ORDER; OPENING STATEMENT:  This meeting is being held in             

               compliance with Public Law 1975, Chapter 231, Sections 4 and 13, as notice of

this meeting and the agenda thereof had been reported to the Morris County Daily       Record on January 3, 2007 and posted in the municipal building.

 

  Mayor George Jackson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

       

 2. ROLL CALL

 All Council members were present.

 Borough Attorney Marty Murphy, Borough Manager Joe Tempesta and Borough Clerk Christina Whitaker were also present.

 

 3. INVOCATION – Rev. Susan J. Butler / St. Peters     

 

 4.  PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

 5. INTRODUCTION OF DIGNITARIES - Mayor Jackson

 Mayor Jackson welcomed all dignitaries present and recognized Tony Bucco

 who attended the meeting on behalf of his father Sen. Anthony Bucco.

7.    MEMORIAL STATEMENT – Ellen Emr

(List of Names hereto attached)

Councilwoman Emr read the names of residents and former residents who died in 2008.

 

 8.  OATH OF OFFICE /NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL MEMBERS

             Clerk Will Read Statement of Determination and Administer Oath of Office.

                    Councilman Gormally

                    Councilman Jackson

                    Councilman McWilliams

                    Councilman Shaw

 

           Mr. Murphy administered the oath of office to the Council members elected in the

           November 2008 election.            

 

9.  ELECTION OF MAYOR

Borough Clerk Christina Whitaker took nominations for Mayor.

 

Motion by Councilman Jackson, second by Councilwoman Wilson, to elect Councilman Stephen Shaw as Mayor, with all members in favor signifying by “Yes.”

Stephen Shaw was elected to Mayor by acclamation.

 

Mr. Murphy administered the oath of office to Mayor Shaw.

   

 10. ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR

 Mayor Shaw took nominations for Deputy Mayor

 

 Motion by Councilwoman Wilson, second by Councilman Happer to elect Charles 

 Gormally as Deputy Mayor, with all members in favor signifying by “Yes.”

 Charles Gormally was elected Deputy Mayor by acclamation.

 

 Mr. Murphy administered the oath of office to Deputy Mayor Gormally

           Assistant Fire Chief John Reily.

14. PUBLIC COMMENT

            Mayor Shaw explained the Council’s policy of limiting each speaker to 5 minutes and no

            yielding of time to another person.

 

                   Mayor Shaw opened the public comment portion of the meeting with consent of Council.

 

                With no one wishing to be heard, Mayor Shaw closed the public comment portion of the 

                meeting.

 

15. MAYOR’S MESSAGE (Hereto attached)

Members of the Council thanked Councilman Jackson for his hard work and fiscal good sense during his two-years as Mayor.

 

16.    ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Deputy Mayor Gormally, second by Councilman Happer to adjourn the meeting at 8:25 p.m. with all members in favor signifying by “Aye.”
