Borough Manager Joseph Tempesta, Jr.

Joseph Tempesta, Jr. is the Borough Manager of Mountain Lakes.

Joe Tempesta was born in Yonkers, New York in 1959, and shortly thereafter his family moved to Yorktown Heights, NY and then in 1968, moved to West Caldwell NJ.  He has lived in West Caldwell since then and is married to Anne Botto Tempesta and they have a 17-year-old son, Joe, who graduated from James Caldwell High School in June 2008 and is attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Mr.  Tempesta has a B.A.  Degree in Economics from Montclair State University and has attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Graduate MBA program as well as numerous professional, executive management, and technical education programs throughout his career.

Throughout his career in the private industry he has held a variety of positions in the personal computer and digital technology industries serving most recently as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SAYMAR Digital Business Systems in Pine Brook, NJ.

He began his career in public service in 1982 serving as a volunteer member and later as Chairman of the West Caldwell Environmental Commission and has also served as a volunteer member of the West Caldwell Planning Board and for the last 25 years has volunteered for various community athletic and recreation activities, civic organizations, and charitable events.

He has worked in the Public Works, Administration and Finance Departments for the Township of West Caldwell as well as the Recreation Departments for West Caldwell, Verona, Livingston, and Cedar Grove Townships.  He has also served as Mayor of the Township of West Caldwell for 10 years as well as serving as 8 years as a Councilman in West Caldwell.

He dedicated his tenure as Mayor to try and improve services for working families, add social programs for Senior Citizens, and improve recreational activities and facilities for the children of West Caldwell and Caldwell joint Recreation Programs.  He has dedicated the net proceeds of the annual West Caldwell Mayor's Ball to worthy charities such as the Susan G.  Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, and has emphasized helping those individuals with Developmental Disabilities, particularly children.  He is most proud of helping establish the Grant Award Winning Program "Buddies and Shadows" Recreation program for children with disabilities and special needs throughout the West Essex Area.

He also currently serves or has served on numerous Boards and Community Affiliations including The NJ Conference of Mayors, the NJ League of Municipalities Executive Board, and the Essex County Conference of Mayors, the West Essex Conference of Mayors, West Essex UNICO, and the Essex County Open Space Advisory Board.  He has also testified before the NJ General Assembly and Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders on behalf of the citizens of West Caldwell, Essex County, and the State of New Jersey.  He was recently appointed by Governors Corzine and Codey to the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission as Commissioner.  The Commission supplies water to nearly 3.5 million residents throughout the Northern New Jersey.  He has also made many television appearances on the Comcast Network CN8 Community Program shown on CNN as well as Mountain Broadcasting Corporation's WMBC-TV 63 Hometown program.
