November 2004 Issues

 

 

l Discussion of large inflatable rafts and the Borough's actions to control them.

 

l Discussion of greater enforcement about material disposal by lawn services.

 

l Discussion of cleaning the Canal after the first freeze.

 

l Discussion of Committee budget for 2005: impact on cleaning schedule.

 

l Discussion about reaching all parts of Mountain Lake for debris removal.  There are areas where boat mounted machinery can not reach because it is too shallow, and terrain prohibits land machinery.  Manager will examine access and restoration issues.

 

l Allied Biological reported on algaecide treatment in Crystal.

 

l Unusual turbidity in several lakes, probably associated with low oxygen levels. 

 

l Birchwood with unusually low oxygen level lately, and an algae bloom.

 

l Sunset will require a general water lily suppression next year.

 

l Discussion of potential aeration project for 2005. In light of the very low levels at Birchwood.  Project subject to study and budget.

 

l Discussion of the goose population and fecal coliform counts this summer.

 

l Discussion of the loosestrife removal this summer.  Blueflag Iris and Pickerel Weed and Duck Potato as alternative native plantings.

 

l Discussion of water plant growth in Sunset. Primarily Southern Naiad, which the Borough has been encouraging as native plant nutrient sink.
