April 2005 Issues

 

 

 

l Committee goal review:

1)    Continue current successful lake treatment program.

2)    Analyze results of previous five year cleaning program and create a new five year cleaning plan.  Assess merits of omitting one year.

3)    Look for long-term management solutions/successes.

4)    Continue to focus public awareness on the importance and fragility of our lakes.

5)    Review Allied Biological’s lake specific goals for 2005.

 

 

l The Borough Manager has prepared a lakes cleaning spreadsheet.  This provides a history of costs, processes used, and volumes of material.  In summary of 1999 – 2004:

5,569 cubic yards removed

$157,136 spent. 

Costs per cubic yard ranged from $9.23 to $55.22.  Costs driven by location of materials and equipment/staff required. 

 

l The Committee discussed the early appearance of filamentous algae and the probability that no treatment is necessary.

 

l The Committee discussed Sunset Lake dam, associated studies, and timetable.

 

l Drain cleaning equipment has been ordered and is being manufactured.

 

l Lake Treatment permits have arrived and treatment will start as necessary.

 

l The Committee discussed the Manager’s plan to evaluate 39 areas that have had leaves cleared in past.
