Borough of Mountain Lakes
Lakes Management Advisory Committee
Issues October 2005
l Shadow Lake dam requires
repairs, which can be done by Borough staff.
l The Committee discussed the
coming study of flows/exposure/inundation.
l Still have filamentous algae
this late in the season. All through
Mountain Lakes chain. This condition is
also present in Lake Arrowhead and into Boonton. Appears to be less acute in Mountain Lakes, perhaps because of
early treatment.
l The Committee discussed recommendations
about dissolved oxygen in Birchwood. It
reviewed Allied Biological’s recommendation of an aerator system. The Committee
approved inclusion of aerator in budget proposal.
l The Committee discussed alum
treatments, native plants as a nutrient sink, and storm drain cleaning. The new Borough drain cleaning equipment
means that all drains in town can be cleaned annually if necessary and key
drains can be cleared of sediment twice a year.
l The Committee discussed the
annual walk to review key areas for future action. Target date: November 5.
