                        Meeting called to order @ 7:33 PM

Chair:

á      June Meeting minutes – Accepted

á      Discussion of the Midvale Boat Dock and which side of the actual dock is to be maintained.  Council Liaison expressed opinion that left side should not be used.  Consensus that launching should only be to the right.  Very positive comments on maintenance of launching area to right of dock.  Fittings on dock itself to be repaired in Fall when the dock can be taken from water.

á      Observation that there is an overturned boat at the entrance to the Canal.

á      Chair observed that she felt that the water quality in front of buffer plantings (Wildwood and Mountain) was better.

 

Borough Manager:

= Discussion of water levels.  Review of previous attempts to manage nutrients, caused by the discovery and removal of the remnants of the passive nutrient removal system from more than 15 years ago.

=Discussion of dams. DPW Manager discussed current work, provided pictures.   Council Liaison asked a series of questions about engineering, outflow, construction.

=Discussion goose management.  Very few geese on Mountain Lake.

=Discussion of water levels in Wildwood.  Jim Bailey provided measurement records 5/4/09 to 7/6/10.  Discussion of whether the current yellow line represents an appropriate target level.  Comment that the system needs to be dynamic, higher in Spring, inevitably lower in Summer.  Committee will review levels during the remainder of year and help Borough management with setting targets.  New Jersey Precipitation chart:

=Discussion of alum application in Wildwood Lake. 

 

Allied Biological:

á      Discussion of 2010 season lake treatments.  Presented summary page. 

á      Use of Clearcast discussed.  Not clear whether it has performed as advertised.

á      Discussion of dye testing in homes around Shadow Lake.  Five houses to date, no leaks into lake. 

á      Fecal coliform sampling at Shadow.  Two low, one high, one very high.  Cause unknown; continuing review.

á      Council Liaison asked about water lily control.  Allied Biological explained the periodic treatment process.

á      Allied discussed Dissolved Oxygen in Birchwood Lake.  Discussion of aeration system; may have affected the previous readings more positively than was apparent.  Council Liaison asked a series of questions about aeration.  Birchwood aeration will resume.

á      Council Liaison asked further questions about treatment. 

á      Council Liaison asked about the bathymetric mapping project.

 

Old Business:

 

New Business:  Council Liaison commented that Woodlands Committee would like to remove the Japanese Barberry at the Cove.  Discussion of buffers.  Discussion of dogs on the beaches; signage improvements coming.  Problems with enforcement.  Council Liaison relayed that the Mountain Lakes Club is roping off part of the lake.  Discussion that the Council is responsible for enforcement.  Council Liaison raised issue of the mooring of boats on Mountain Lakes.  Discussion of roles of Council and Committee.

 

Public Comment: Discussion of Mountain Lakes and the accumulation of debris at Lake End Place.  Woody debris this year.  Council Liaison asked if the area had been depth mapped.  Yes.  DPW will review with landowners and Committee members.
