Beach Report – Dede Conlan
Beach Directory Dede Conlan presented her end-of-season beach report.  This report is on file in the secretary’s records.  Highlights:

·         18 lifeguards, 15 fulltime, 3 subs.

·         Attendance was observed as lowoer this year at the beaches.  Swim team attendance was down, Swim Lesson registration was light.

·         Total Tag sales were:

2012

2013

Birchwood tag sales

$796

$568

Island tag sales

$1571

$1182

Punch card (guest) sales

$5510

$3600

Totals

$7877

$5350

Dede believes that we are doing a disservice to our community by having the guest beach tags expire.  Chairperson Wright’s view is that the bulk purchase gives a substantial discount so the expiration dissuades people from stocking up to use over a period of years.

·         Sailing camp:  parents do not need to be present for sailors under 10.  They are supervised by camp counselors.

·         The issue of sailboat docked at rings without being registered is an issue to be addressed with sailing camp, as they plan for next season.

Sports Board Guidelines

Commissioners have not all completed reviewing the new document and guidelines with various existing boards.  The commission will table this until next meeting.

Event Survey Update

Survey results were distributed to the commission.  They are also on file in the secretary’s records.  The survey showed that the town was aware of most events, with the exception of the concerts at Island Beach last summer.  People miss Mountain Lakes day, which was never the purview of the Rec Department.  There were a few suggestions for change in the Menorah Lighting event.  Recommendations and suggestions from the survey have been shared in detail with the rec director, who is acting on them as we define our slate of offerings for 2014.
