                                           Minutes of Meeting

                                            March 13, 2008

 

 

In Attendance:

1. There were no comments from the public.

 

2. February minutes were approved.

 

3. Plans for Arbor Day are on schedule. Dr. Kazmark and Mayor Jackson have been notified. Gary Webb is the honoree and the Island Beach area is under consideration for the site of his tree.  Approximately 300 trees from New Jersey Forest Service will be distributed to grades K-3. Laura and Bonnie are coordinating the planting and monitoring of 50 free trees from the Forestry Commission. Jr. Nature Club members and Girl Scouts will plant them on Wildwood property, during the week of Arbor Day.

Heather will contact Christina for the Arbor Day Proclamation. Mayor Jackson would like to have a copy prior to Arbor Day.

 

4. Heather would like suggestions for the wording on GaryÕs certificate.

 

5. NJ Tree Foundation was very happy to receive MLSTCÕs request for trees. Evergreens are among the varieties available.

 

6. Commission membership for the Shade Tree Federation has been updated.

 

7. Sue will work with Joan to modify the Shade Tree Setback Management Form to meet the needs of the new Borough Manager.

 

8. Marnie and Laura attended Core training and they report that it was comprehensive; addressing disease, planting, pruning and liability issues.

 CSIP grants are available again as are Shade Tree license plates.  Laura will pursue CEU credit for STC from her master gardening classes.

 

9. Heather will call Greenwood Tree Service about the tree scheduled for removal from Midvale Park and ask that it be made a high priority.

 

10. There is a new memorial tree request for a planting at Island Beach.

      Decorations on memorial/honorary trees were discussed. The draft policy, Public Memorials on Public Property, will be modified to include memorial and honorary trees and given to Richard for Council consideration.
