Shade Tree Commission

Minutes October 8th, 2009

 

Present: J. Best, M. Vyff, S. Marshall, L. Conner and T. Caine

Council Representative: D. McWilliams

 

1. No comments from the public.

 

2. STC Chair Status:

Bonnie Rosenthall has resigned from the STC as of October 5th. The search is on for a replacement. Joan and Sue will continue to act as interim Chair until year-end and will officially act as STC Chair in 2010.

 

3. Minutes from SeptemberÕs meeting were accepted as written.

 

4. 2010 Goals and Objectives:

All members should review and revise for NovemberÕs meeting.

 

5. CSIP Grant Tree Planting Update:

All 50 tree mark outs have been completed. Planting of the trees and the Esplanade will begin on Oct. 26. Tony Cerbo will also check on the health of ailing ÔnewÕ trees at that time. Joe Bennett from the state will be present to assess planting procedure along the Boulevard.

 

6. Tree Protection & Removal Permitting Issues:

Please take stock of your areas year round to see who is removing trees. There is no money in the near future for planting of new trees with the exception of money that may be raised from 100 years-100 tree campaign.

 

7. Revision of Tree Removal-Management Plan Application Intro. Page: Read and submit revisions for Nov. meeting.

 

8. Prune and Remove Update:

Please make arrangements with Joan to input your data as soon as possible. It should be completed by the end of Oct.

 

9. Esplanade Update:

Trees and plantings will be installed starting Oct. 26th.

 

10. Class of 2012 Tree Planting Presentation

Members of the STC will attend council meeting when students present their information concerning the tree planting initiative at the High School.

 

11. New Business:

Sustainable NJ Green Team Presentation on Oct. 27 at the MLHS.

Joan will represent both the DPW and the STC. Her focus will be on the aging tree population in town and the importance of maintaining the tree canopy. Invasive species and their eradication will be discussed, including Norway Maples.

 

Next meeting scheduled at 8:30 on November 12, 2009.
