Minutes of Meeting

January 13, 2011

Commissioners in attendance: S. Marshall, J. Best, L. Conner, T. Caine, M. Vyff, J. Eveleth and H. Carr

1.     There were no comments from the public.

2.     December minutes are approved with corrections.

3.     2011 Re-organization

á      George Jackson has been appointed, council liaison.

á      Joan and Sue will continue on as co-chairs.

á      Heather will keep minutes as before.

á      Tom will continue to maintain the website with assistance from Jay who would like to see the possible addition of video.  There may be links to instructive video such as Òhow to plant a tree.Ó  The idea will be investigated.

á      The P&R Computer Program is housed at DPW with Joan in charge.  Each commissioner will add information pertaining to their designated area.

á      Laura will continue to keep us posted on developments on the Cove Project.

á      Marnie will still chair Arbor Day.  An honoree needs to be designated.  In keeping with the BoroÕs centennial theme it was suggested that we honor a historical group of Mountain Lakes citizens who asked their neighbors to plant trees.  Sue will check into the history and report back.

á      Heather has submitted the Tree City yearly recertification.

á      Sue will work with Joan to send out the Community Forestry Management Plan yearly update.

á      Joan will contact John Linson, who is writing our Community Forestry Management Plan for 2011-2015, to check on his progress.

4.     Laura reported that the Cove Project is moving ahead quickly with many meetings in the hopes that the work can be completed by late spring/early summer.  A concept drawing will be presented to council, a first step in presenting a final drawing to the public at an open meeting.  The plan includes low walls of pudding stone, low native grasses and shrubs that will replace the barberry.  Parking seems to be a sticking point.  More information can be obtained by reading the Cove Project meeting minutes on line.

5.     The honorary tree protocol guidelines listed on the STC website will be tweaked to clarify the process.  Commissioners added their comments and Joan will revise the document accordingly.  She will email the new version to Tom who will have it posted.  Heather will continue to be point person for honorary trees.

6.     P&R is out for bid, with bid opening planned on Jan. 21.  This should put us on schedule to have the work commence in late winter/early spring, as desired.

7.     Joan has been in contact with the centennial committee about the largest tree contest, describing how trees should be measured and data collected.

Next meeting will be held on February 10th
