MINUTES
October 11, 2012

Commissioners: C. Murtagh, J. Best, T. Caine, M. Vyff, J. Horst, H. Carr and J. Eveleth
Council Liaison: B. Bravo

There were no comments from the public.

September minutes were approved. Action needs to be completed on #4 – homeowner packet for Construction Dept.

We are nearing completion of the Service Request list of Prune and Removals.

All articles published in the Mountain Lakes magazine need to be forwarded to Tom for inclusion on the website. All future articles also need to be put on the website.

The Borough Manager is the contact person for issues with JCP&L. Commissioners should report any issues to him.

Tree protection enforcement will be the responsibility of Rita in the Construction Department. We should schedule a meeting with the co-chairs, Rita and Bob Tovo so all have the same understanding of issues and expectations.

The Memorial Tree at Kaufman Park for the Stokes will be a pink flowering crabapple.

An evergreen tree on Cove Place located in the middle of the street that has been lit at Christmas is dying and should be removed in the near future. A homeowner has expressed interest in replacing the tree. There are issues of size constraints, electric hookup, and the general public property location. This is an administrative issue and is in the hands of Bob Tovo.

Other:
The Commission reviewed the properties that are reviewed by the arborist. Minor changes were suggested. The arborist should review the Birchwood loop, the path between the schools, the path to the soccer fields and the steps to Grove Place.

Marnie reported that Mountain Lakes has won a $2000 Sustainable Jersey Grant. It will be used to show monthly environmental movie nights. Sources for suggested movies or speakers might include the NJ Shade Tree Federation, Rutgers Extension Service, or The Nature Conservancy Kay Environmental Center.

Next meeting will be held on November 15, 2012

Respectfully submitted,
Joan Best
