Mountain Lakes Program for Spring 2010

January 8 Robert Wagner and Stan Schoonmaker will describe the memorable sounds and the golden years of the Dover Speedway.  Rev up your engines and come!
January 15 Learn more about our school district's Long Range Educational Plan 2009 - 2014 at this meeting.  Dr. Kazmark, Superintendent, Dr. Anne Mucci, MLHS Principal, Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Henry, Curriculum Supervisors, will lead a panel discussion on this topic and the 2010 budget.
January 22 Walter Vink, an Industrial Award-Winning Confectioner, will dispel the myths of chocolate.  Travel to foreign lands as he tells his stories.
January 29 Jane Costello from the Lakeland Hills YMCA will present another interesting meeting devoted to our physical well-being.  She will be accompanied by another expert from the “Y”.
February 5 We will be visited by Sophie Tucker.  Her show is full of good music and funny stories about her life as a professional entertainer.  Our group is going to have a good time.
February 12 This will be another enjoyable movie afternoon at the library.  Our movie will be “On the Waterfront”.  Joyce Frei, our cinema teacher, will be discussing the movie with us.
February 19 Henry Paterson is an amateur radio ham.  He will be teaching us about the many uses of ham radio.  It had many uses in the past and Henry will bring us up to date about its use today.
February 26 Sylvia Campbell has been a volunteer on eighteen Earthwatch Institute expeditions.  Sylvia will speak about her trip to St. Croix with Earthwatch where she studied ladderback turtles.
March 5 Olga Valcoff, author of “Hello, Golden Gate”, will discuss her adventures as she traveled from Russia to Japan and from there to San Francisco.
March 12 Compelling storyteller David Emerson retells and embroiders the colorful and ancient tales of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
March 19 Michael Pollack of the New Jersey Audobon Society will present a slide program to the Fifty-Five Plus Group on “Backyard Habitats for Birds and Butterflies”.  Mr. Pollack will explain how to attract birds and butterflies to your yard.
March 26 Mark Wood of Wood ‘n Drums in Rockaway will present a program on Drumming.  He will bring drums for all to participate.
April 9 Kim Darst and her dog, Cotton, will present a program on the Alaskan Iditarod.  Come and enjoy the stories about the race.
April 16 Neill Hartley of the American Historical Society will portray Sherlock Holmes and tell us how he works out the elements of a mystery.
April 23 An enjoyable program will be presented by the musical group called “Clarinets a la Mode”.
April 30 Stephanie Halpin will talk to us about the United Way report on Morris County.  She will lead a discussion on some of the issues.
May 7 Our topic will be Art History.  Judy Ebright, our favorite art historian, will present a program on “The Three Wyeths”.
May 14 Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen will attend our meeting to talk with us about our local county problems as well as the state and federal areas of concern.
May 21 We will finish the season with a concert by the New Horizon Band.  This band is composed of seniors who are returning to the music they played in their youth.  Several of our members will perform.
May 31 Memorial Day – come to the parade!
