First Time Applicants

Persons applying for Firearms Identification Card and/or Permits to Purchase Handguns will have to submit the following:

1. Fill out in its entirety, the application questionnaire, along with a certified check or Money Order, in the amount of $60.25 made payable to Division of State Police -- S.B.I.
2. Fingerprints of the applicant must be taken when questionnaire and the check/MO is returned to police headquarters.
3. Besides the two (2) personal references listed on the application, a third personal reference's name, address and telephone number must be provided to the police department. This person must be willing to speak with an officer regarding the character of the applicant.
4. Once all checks are on the applicant are completed, the applicant will be called and told they can pick up the ID card and/or permit. They must bring with them either a check or cash in the amount of $5.00 for an ID card and $2.00 for each permit being granted.

Additional Permits to Purchase

1. When a period of one (1) year has lapsed since the last filing for a permit or obtaining the ID card, a Criminal History Verification will be done. A certified check or Money Order in the amount of $18.00 will accompany the application, payable to the Division of State Police- S.B.I.
2. Once the permit has been cleared for issuance, the applicant must bring with them either cash or check for $2.00 for each permit being issued.

Change of Address/Lost or Stolen Firearms ID Card

1. Each and every submission will need a Criminal History check done. This must be accompanied by a certified check or money order in the amount of $18.00, made payable to the Division of State Police- S.B.I.
