First Time Applicants

Persons applying for Firearms Identification Card and/or Permits to Purchase Handguns will have to submit the following:

  1. Fill out in its entirety, the application questionnaire. When you return the form, you will be given another form so that you may make an appointment to have your fingerprints taken at a LiveScan location. All information regarding that is on the form.
  2. Once all checks on the application are completed, the applicant will be called and told they can pick up the ID card and/or permit. They must bring with them a check made payable to the Borough of Mountain Lakes in the amount of $5.00 for an ID card and $2.00 for each permit being granted.

Additional Permits to Purchase

  1. When a period of one (1) year has lapsed since the last filing for a permit or obtaining the ID card, a Criminal History Verification will be done. A certified check or Money Order in the amount of $18.00 will accompany the application, payable to the Division of State Police- S.B.I.
  2. Once the permit has been cleared for issuance, the applicant must bring with them a check made payable to the Borough of Mountain Lakes for $2.00 for each permit being issued.

Change of Address/Lost or Stolen Firearms ID Card

  1. Each and every submission will need a Criminal History check done. This must be accompanied by a certified check or money order in the amount of $18.00, made payable to the Division of State Police- S.B.I.
