2024 Rack and Ring RENEWAL application
Rack and Ring renewal begins Friday, March 1 through March 31. The annual fee for rack and ring renewal is $50 ($35 for Seniors’ age 62+).
Below are the ways you can renew:
- You will receive an email by 9am March 1st from recreation@mtnlakes.org with instructions to renew online. Email used is the one on your 2023 application.
- Stop by Borough Hall temporary location (420 Boulevard, Suite 103) Monday-Wednesday, March 4-6 from 8:30am-4:00pm (we are closed for moving March 7-8). Starting Monday, March 11, go to our new Borough Hall Administrative Office (400 Boulevard).
- Mail your renewal application to: Rack and Ring Renewal, Attn: Recreation Director, 400 Boulevard, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046
- Drop your renewal application (NO CASH) in the green tax payment box at Borough Hall parking lot (400 Boulevard)
Once we receive your renewal, please allow up to 10 business days to process and confirm your renewal. You will receive an email from recreation@mtnlakes.org with subject line: Rack and Ring Renewal CONFIRMATION. This email will include your confirmed Rack and Ring location, number, and additional information on when you can start utilizing your spot(s), as well as a reminder about our policies. The Borough of Mountain Lakes reserves the right to confirm residency, if needed.
You must have confirmation prior to use of our Rack and Ring program.
We encourage you to submit your renewal application by March 20, but by March 31 at the latest. After March 31st, any rack and/or ring NOT renewed will be open to new applicants. If you miss the March 31 deadline, you will need to re-apply for an available Rack and Ring on April 3.
All watercraft must be registered, including kid kayaks and paddle boards. If you need to register your watercraft, please go to Borough Hall to complete a registration form. Fee is $5 per watercraft. If your sticker is no longer visible, you will need to re-register your watercraft.
The Summer Recreation Camp Program at Briarcliff Middle School
Get ready for summer fun at the Mountain Lakes Recreation Camp Program. Week 1-4 will feature games, crafts, special guests and programs, and Fridays at the beaches (weather permitting)! Camp runs 9am-12pm. Week 5 is Beach Week and takes place at Island and Birchwood Beaches. Click on the Online Registration tab on the left to register.
Please note – due to unforeseen circumstances at Wildwood Elementary School our camp program is being held at Briarcliff Middle School.
Open to Mountain Lakes residents going into Kindergarten through 5th grade in August 2024. Please register your child(ren) for the age appropriate program.
Weekly Themes
Week 1: Blue & Orange – If your child likes Field Day, they will love Blue & Orange Week – field games, crafts, and playground fun!
Week 2: Olympics – This is a great week to play sports and learn about different countries.
Week 3: Water Fun – It’s time to get wet – water balloons, water blasters, slip & slides and more!
Week 4: Mountain Lakes Has Talent! – A week of games, singing, dancing, joke telling and more. Counselors will work with kids to create a fun show for all to see. Great fun for performers and non-performers!
Week 5: Beach Week – Sandcastles, beach games, swimming & more. CAMP WILL BE HELD AT ISLAND BEACH & BIRCHWOOD BEACH THIS WEEK.
A welcome email will be sent from Summer Recreation Camp Director a few weeks prior to the start of the weekly program.
Teen Adventure Summer Program
The Mountain Lakes Teen Adventure program offers different fun excursions each week! Bus departs from Briarcliff Middle School. Click on the Online Registration tab on the left to register.
Open to rising Mountain Lakes 6th through 8th graders. The first three weeks offers trips to Point Pleasant Beach, Dorney Park, Brachburg Sports Complex, Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark, Broadway, and/or bowling and rollerskating. Each week features five different day trips. The times vary for different trips, and generally depart at 9am and return between 3-7pm. More information including specific times will be sent by the Teen Adventure Director, Douglas Mattoon, Briarcliff Middle School 8th Grade Science Teacher and Boys Basketball Coach.
Week 1 – July 8-12 – Branchburg Sports Complex, Point Pleasant Beach, Dorney Park, Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark, and Roller Skating/Bowling.
Week 2 – July 15-19 – Dorney Park, Point Pleasant Beach, Broadway show (TBA), Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark, and Roller Skating/Bowling.
Week 3 – July 22-26 – Branchburg Sports Complex, Point Pleasant Beach, Dorney Park, Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark, and Roller Skating/Bowling.
Week 4 – July 29-August 2 – Surf Camp at Summertime Surf in Asbury Park

Summer Sailing Program
The Mountain Lakes Sailing Association provides summer sailing instructional camp for Mountain Lakes youth ages 8 and up. The camp runs for 6 weeks, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for make-up days for inclement weather (except Week 2). Click on the Online Registration tab on the left to register.
Campers younger than 13 years old must pass the Mountain Lakes swim test prior to participation.
Campers must have a Sunfish Sailboat. Boat Rental is available for $50/week if you do not own a Sunfish. Please add this option to your cart when you register.
MLSA Program Agreement to Follow Camp Rules
Please read prior to registration. To participate in the Sailing Program, all participants must:
1) Wear a Life Jacket at all times on the lake.
2) Follow the directions of camp staff.
3) Behave in a sportsmanlike manner.
4) Stay with my boat if it overturns.
5) Immediately return to the beach if thunder is heard.
6) Immediately go to the nearest shore and take shelter if lightning is spotted.
7) No swimming during a race or game.
8) No swimming off the beach where sailing camp is being held.
9) Treat all boats and equipment with respect.
10) Not be reckless and sail in control, always.
11) Have fun and enjoy learning to sail!

Mountain Lakes Rules for Birchwood and Island Beaches
Beach Rules and Enforcement
- Recreational facilities are open dawn to dusk. Volleyball is open until 11pm.
- Lifeguards are in full charge of the beach
- Beach is open to residents only
- Beach tags are required for residents 3 years and older when lifeguards are on duty
- Proof of residency is required at all other times
- Beach tags are non-transferable
- Beach tags and privileges attached may be withdrawn for misconduct or using a tag not registered to you
- Children who must be accompanied by a person 16 years of age or older:
- All children under 10 years of age
- Children 10 years through 12 years who have not passed the swim test and received a swim badge
- Swim badges must be worn on the suit
- Children 12 years and under without a swim badge are restricted to shallow water areas
- Swimmers over 12 years of age and those who are wearing swim badges:
- May use deep water areas (swim lanes, rafts, and diving boards)
- Swim Pre-Team members may utilize the swim lanes during Swim Practice only. Must be supervised by Swim Coach
- No personal floatation devices (bubbles, vests, floaties, lifejackets, etc.) of any kind except in swim classes
- No running, pushing, or roughhousing on beach, rafts, or docks
- Ball playing only at the far end of the beach
- No glass containers on the beach
- No alcoholic beverages permitted
- No dogs permitted on the beach
- Special events require permits
- No fishing allowed on the docks at Birchwood Lake any time during the summer
- No fishing allowed on the beaches while beaches are open
- No sitting or waiting on the floating docks
- Restrooms will be open during beach hours and will be maintained
PUBLIC PARKS, PLAYGROUNDS AND FIELDS:
ALL township parks, playgrounds and fields are currently open. Please adhere to all posted rules and regulations.
