EcoWeekend – This Coming Weekend!

Comments : Off

EcoWeekend2017LogoSign up for The Rain Barrel Workshop and Composters. The Community Clean Up . Plan ahead! The complete schedule is HERE.

This year, EcoWeekend kicks-off with Arbor Day on April 28th at 1:30 pm. We will be honoring Jerry Uhrig for all the work he has done for the trees of our woodlands; and Borough Councilwoman, Janet Horst, has written another lovely story celebrating the woodlands.

On Friday and Saturday, April 28 & 29, we will be running our semi-annual Trash Day at the DPW yard, where non-recyclable and larger items can be disposed of for a fee. Please remember you can bring your metals for recycling any other time for free.

Plan to help your favorite Club, Team or Neighborhood do a Community Clean-Up of a local pocket park or ball field on April 29th. Groups can choose an area in town to clean up, as we have done in previous years. So grab some friends and come out to help us continue to keep Mountain Lakes an eco-friendly town

EcoCenter – new this year

We will have an EcoCenter in front of the Recycling Center on April 29th to learn about composting, invasives, reusable bags, trees and more.

  • Composters will be available to residents at wholesale cost of $55. You can order yours now online and pick it up on April 29th at the EcoCenter. Or, you can take your chances we have some left and buy it then. We will have composting literature and can offer some good tips at pickup.
  • You can also pledge to use reusable bags online or at the EcoCenter. Get your Environmental Commission pouch bag and sport your support of environmental activities. Pledge signers get the discounted price of $6.00.
  • The Shade Tree Commission will also be giving out Free Trees seedlings at the EcoCenter to help restore our canopy. How many will you want for your yard?

The Rain Barrel Workshop is Sunday April 30th from 1 to 3 at the High School Cafeteria. Rain barrels are a great way to save on your water bill and help the local environment at the same time. They are $45 each. We are limited to 24 barrels so sign up for your Rain Barrel soon at the Borough Hall or online. If you can’t make the Workshop we have a few barrels that will be sold in front of the Recycling Center on Saturday April 29th.

The 40th Annual Woods & Lakes Run will start from Birchwood lake at 10:00 am on April 29th. All men and women over 30 should sign up now to participate in the traditional 5K and 10K runs.

Please note the times for these events and if you want to take advantage of more than one, you need to plan ahead.
