Good morning,

I hope that you and your families had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. A few important reminders as the busy final month of the year nears.

At our regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday, December 5th, the Board of Education will be:

1)  Recognizing the accomplishments of our outstanding student athletes from our fall sports programs.

2)  Discussing the most recent revisions to the Referendum Proposal slated for vote in September 2017.  The current proposal has items for all three schools in Question A and stands at a tax levy of  $18, 298,883. (State funding would account for approximately $7,116,232. bringing the total for Question A to $25,415,115.)  Question B stands at a tax levy of $3,490, 290.  (State funding would account for approximately $1,357,335 bringing the total for Question B to $4,847,625.)  There is an additional, separate question that would call for moving the Board Office out of Borough Hall.  That question amounts to $1,121.250.)

On Monday the 5th, the Board will discuss the reductions in the overall proposal, review the elements of our next public survey on the Referendum and hear questions and comments from the public.  The League of Women Voters will be hosting a Forum on the Referendum on January 17th, the Board will distribute a survey within the next few weeks to garner more public input on the proposal, and each of the four subcommittees will have additional meetings before our final plans are submitted for approval to the State of New Jersey.  So please, use one or more of these avenues to share your thoughts and ideas.

3)  Voting on a Motion to enter into an Agreement with the Morris County School of Technology to establish an Academy for Biotechnology at Mountain  Lakes High School in September 2017.

Separate but important notes:

At your next visit to our schools or the Mountain Lakes Town Library, please review our lending library on student stress and anxiety. Our school administrative team has compiled a group of titles that we believe will assist parents with practical advice on managing student stress and anxiety in the areas of generalized anxiety related to academics, sports related anxiety issues and college admissions stress. I will be leading some parent discussion on topics from these books in February, I will also share excerpts from sections of the suggested titles leading up to these talks.

Also it is time for the next Superintendent Brown Bag Lunch and Evening Conversation. Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 6th at noon or Wednesday, December 7th at 7:30 pm.  Both meetings will be held at the Mountain Lakes High School Library.

As always, please feel free to email me or set up an appointment to discuss any item that may be of concern or interest to you. Thank you for your time and continued support of our schools.

Sincerely,

Anne Mucci, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
