Historic Preservation Committee

Meeting Minutes – January 21, 2016

A meeting of the Mountain Lakes Historic Preservation Committee (“HPC” or the “Committee”) was held on January 21, 2016, in the Mountain Lakes Library. In attendance were Chair Lesley Karczewski, Vice Chair Tom Dagger, Alex Gotthelf, and Katy Roberts. Absent were Borough Liaison Bill Albergo, Pat Rusak, Mike DeWitt, Ginny Cassidy, Sima Roy Chowdhury and Margaret DeWitt.

Approval of Prior Meeting’s Minutes

The minutes of the December 10, 2015 meeting were approved upon motion of Tom Dagger and seconded by Alex Gotthelf.

Treasurer’s Report

Lesley Karczewski presented the report:

Archivist’s Report

Lesley Karczewski reported that Pat Rusak has had an email exchange with David Madigan of the New Shorham Historical Society. He indicated he was acquainted with members of the Hapgood family. Pat and Lesley discussed visiting them in the spring.

Borough Liaison Report

Bill Albergo is our new liaison. He was unable to attend the meeting

Old Business

Lesley reported that she and Ginny have been unsuccessful in contacting the builder regarding video documenting the house at 129 Pollard Rd. She spoke with Rich Sheola and he indicated he would look into the status of the demolition.

Lesley reported that our grant application was denied. The committee passed a motion by Tom Dagger, seconded by Katy Roberts to fund the digitization of documents included in the grant application.

Lesley reported that Barton Ross’s work on our CLG application is completed. We will complete our part after the ordinance update is done.

Tom Dagger led a discussion about the ordinance update. He distributed a document with proposed changes and asked committee members to review and be prepared to discuss at the February meeting.

There was no new business to discuss.
