Lakes Management Advisory Committee
August 2003 Issues
1)
Allied Biological, Mountain Lakes’ lakes management service
provider, reported that there were fecal coliform bacteria spikes at Island
Beach. These were probably due to
recent rain and fouling of the beach by waterfowl droppings. The Committee noted that, despite the
success of goose removal by the USDA, beach contamination will continue to be a
problem and will require ongoing clean-up to minimize fecal coliform pollution.
2) Birchwood
Lake was treated 7/14 and 8/12 to control water lily growth. It was treated on 7/18 and 8/4 with alum to
remove nutrients from the water column.
Wildwood Lake was treated with copper sulfate on 7/10 and Crystal Lake
on 8/6. Grunden’s Pond was treated with
alum 7/14. Sunset Lake plant growth
does not warrant treatment. Wildwood
and Mountain do not need alum treatment but will be monitored.
