Traffic and Safety Committee Meeting

June 19, 2007

 

Present: Lauren Brickner-McDonald, Jim Bailey,  Allison Decker (resident ), Louise Davis, Joe Kuchinski, Sarina Grodofsky, Jeana Macleod, Bill Munday, Gary Webb

 

1)      Meeting called to order, minutes from May 16, 2007 meeting were approved.

 

2)      Web Site:

      Jim Bailey corrected the day of our meetings on the site from the third     Wednesday of each month to the third Tuesday of the month.

 

3)      Powerville and Crane Roads:

            Gary Webb gave an update on Powerville and Crane Roads. We did not receive a grant for these roads.  Chief Tovo, Jim Bailey, Engineer Bill Ryden, and Gary met and compiled recommendations concerning the pedestrian safety and traffic calming methods on these two roads.   See the attached document. The TSC will make recommendations based on their findings to the Council for the 2008 budget.

 

       Discussion followed concerning the placement of parking signs by the Powerville Rd. tennis courts. It was suggested that the signs read: ‘Parking Permitted 9 am – 2 pm while school is in session’.

 

4)      Crane and Pocono Roads:

Gary reported that in order to help the situation on Crane and Pocono Roads, we need to improve out traffic calming measures. See the attached recommended improvements which will visually narrow the turns and help drivers maneuver the turns at a slower speed. Action is currently being taken on these recommendations.

 

5)      New Member:

      Sarina will ask a couple of different residents from the Lake Arrowhead section

     of town if they would like to serve on this committee.

6)      Review of TSC Goals: (see attached Goals for 2007)

a)      Discussion to regulate speed on Powerville Road will continue in September.

b)      Evaluation of changes at MLHS and review of their affects will continue.

c)      TSC has continued to review and discuss issues at Wilson School. The TSC recommends to Chief Tovo that parking regulations be reinforced around the Wilson School.

d)      The Master Plan has not been created. Jim will work on the plan over the summer, including a town wide map with walking paths to all the schools. Committee members are to email Jim with any suggestions. Joe suggested  encouraging residents to walk and car pool. Allison Decker suggested  reviewing the ‘Walking School Bus’ routes used in the past.

 

 

7)      New Business:

Lake Drive School: Gary will talk with John Kazmark about the off-site parking and traffic around Lake Drive school and updating this information to the bus drivers.

 

       There will not be any scheduled meetings over the summer.

 

Next meeting to be held in September 2007.
