The Sister City Program was established in 2016 by William duTertre, then a high school senior, to give the globalized Mountain Lakes a cultural exchange program through a sister city partnership. Will chose Chaville, a suburb of French capital Paris, because of familial connections and its similarities to Mountain Lakes. He got approval from Chaville, and after 3 attempts from the Borough of Mountain Lakes as well. The Sister City Committee was then created as a way of managing the budding program.
The efforts of this committee and its French counterpart have allowed for virtual and personal interaction between the high schools in both cities and the creation of clubs for adults in both communities with common interests. We hope to add to the list of accomplishments in the years to come and as interest in Chaville increases.
