New York Art Museum Bus Trip 9:00 am
New York Art Museum Bus Trip @ The Community Church of Mountain Lakes
The first Met Bus Trip of this fall is Tuesday, October 4th, to the ever popular Metropolitan Museum of Art. The second trip will be November 2nd to the Guggenheim Art Museum and the December trip will on December 7th to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For a fee of $50, you will be provided coach bus service from the Community Church of Mtn. Lakes parking lot to the curb in front of the museum as well as a museum talk on the way in to the city and a snack and beverage on the way home. The museum entrance fee is on you so you are free to shop or visit a different museum if you choose to do that instead. The bus leaves at 9 am and returns around 4 pm. The Westminster Community Concert 4:00 pm
The Westminster Community Concert @ The Community Church of Mountain Lakes
The Community Church of Mountain Lakes presents the first Westminster Community Concert of this program year on October 9th at 4:00 pm. The program entitled “Pictures at an Exhibition” will feature Clipper Erickson on piano performing works by Mussorgsky, Laurie Altman and Samuel Barber. Mr. Erickson was here two years ago and wowed us all with his piano prowess. Don’t miss him as he returns! Westminster Community Concerts bring professional musicians to our sanctuary to share their talents and expertise. Previous programs have included some amazing musicians, so mark your calendar now. These concerts are great for inviting a friend or neighbor and also appropriate for budding young musicians or music aficionados. A light reception will follow. A free will offering is taken with a suggested donation of $15.00 for adults. The Community Church of Mountain Lakes is located at 48 Briarcliff Road in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey and is a member congregation of the United Church of Christ. Borough Council meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month in the Meeting Room at Borough Hall, unless otherwise noted.  The Borough Council normally has only one meeting during the summer months of July and August and during the month of December.  The exact dates for this year’s meetings may be found in the Community Calendar.  The public portion of the meeting convenes at 8:00 pm.  An executive session, if necessary, at which the public is not present, begins at 7:30 pm.

Trash Day is for anything that is not recyclable at the Borough Recycling Center, or that is too large or bulky for the regular trash. All hazardous waste (other than e-waste) has to be recycled through the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority.

Stay and watch them be shredded if you like. We are also having a blood drive until 12:30pm and Operation Take back unwanted drug drop off from 10am until 2pm.

MOUNTAIN LAKES BOROUGH COUNCIL CANDIDATES DEBATE TO BE HELD OCTOBER 26 AT HIGH SCHOOL. The League of Women Voters Mountain Lakes is hosting a debate featuring the candidates for Borough Council on Wednesday, October 26, 7:30PM at the Mountain Lakes High School Auditorium. Eight candidates are vying for four positions on the council, each with four-year terms. The candidates, all residents of the community, are William Albergo, Lauren Barnett, John E. Horan, Janet L. Horst, Cynthia Korman, John Lester, Douglas McWilliams, and David Shepherd. “This is not only a critical election year for the country, but also for our community,” shares Mary Alosio-Joelsson, President of the League of Women Voters Mountain Lakes. “From development and low income housing to referendum issues and taxes, local citizens need to be thoroughly informed so they can vote for the representation that aligns with their values. We urge the community to take advantage of this opportunity to hear the candidates debate and share their visions for the future of our town.” The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. In Mountain Lakes, the group’s focus is hyper-local, tackling significant issues impacting the community. “Spooky Pipes: an Organ Concert” @ The Community Church of Mountain Lakes
Hazel Eaton, our Director of Music at The Community Church of Mtn. Lakes, will be performing “Spooky Pipes: an Organ Concert” featuring works by J. S. Bach, César Franck, and Marcel Dupré in our sanctuary, Sunday, October 30 at 4 pm. Originally installed in 1971, the organ is a 3-manual Casavant with digital voices added by Ahlborn Galanti in 2009. Ms. Eaton holds a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College, where she studied with Alan Morrison. Appropriately for Halloween Eve, Ms. Eaton has chosen to share works that are both mysterious and whimsical in nature. From lively dances to familiar Halloween themes, this concert is sure to delight witches and ghouls of all ages! This free community concert is open to all, so invite your neighbors and friends. A reception will follow with an opportunity to discuss the program with Ms. Eaton.
