On behalf of the Borough Council the Planning Board Ordinance Subcommittee will be conducting an information gathering session to collect public input on revising the Borough’s Sign Ordinance.
The current Sign Ordinance, §245-17- Signs, can be viewed on the Borough website at https://ecode360.com/8633221#8633221. As a result of a recent US Supreme Court decision, Reed vs. Town of Gilbert, a sign ordinance cannot separate or classify signs differently because of their content. The ordinance must treat all signs the same as far as content is concerned. Based on this direction the following revisions are being reviewed:
- Removing all signs from the public right of way
- Banning certain new technology signs (spinning, moving, changing etc.)
- Allowing homeowners one temporary sign for up to 30 days
- Banning billboards and limiting commercial window signs
A draft copy of the Sign Ordinance is below for your review.
Please join us on Monday, November 6th for the 10am session or the 7:30pm session in the Council chambers of the Mountain Lakes Borough Hall, 400 Boulevard.
