Contributing Dwelling Photos
This website contains photos of each of the historic homes that are presumptively eligible for the incentives under the 2012 Mountain Lakes historic preservation incentives ordinance, as modified in 2017 (referred to as Contributing Dwellings). The photographs are intended to capture views of the Contributing Dwellings that are visible from adjoining public streets, including architectural details. This is necessary under the ordinance to create a record of the condition of the homes at the time the ordinance was initially adopted or when the homes were subsequently added as Contributing Dwellings under the ordinance (as this provides the baseline for the types of alterations that can be made while preserving eligibility for the incentives under the ordinance). It also serves a useful documentary function of recording the condition of these historic homes at the beginning of the second century of our town’s history. Although not required under the ordinance, the website also includes photos of original detached garages and other historic outbuildings.
The website initially contained photos that were taken by HPC members in August and September 2012 after the ordinance was adopted (with links to those historic photos of these homes, where available). Additional photos were taken to improve views of homes unimpeded by vegetation in late winter and early spring of 2013, and additional photos were taken in 2017 for Contributing Dwellings that were newly added by the 2017 ordinance modifications. In some cases, the HPC was unable to obtain clear photographic views of one or more sides of the homes from the public right of way because trees and bushes in full foliage stood in the way. Therefore, we would like your assistance in helping us to improve this important photographic record of these historically significant homes. In cases where there are missing or obstructed views of one or more sides of your home that are visible from the street on the website, you could assist the HPC either by taking new digital photos and emailing them to us or by sending us an email providing authorization for the HPC to enter your property for the purpose of taking unobstructed photos of your home.
